Playing the game

The flags of Belgium, Greece, Lithuania, Mexico, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania and Sweden flew high  at Warepa School’s mini Olympics last Thursday.

The senior class organised events including an opening ceremony and eight sports, including three-legged hurdle, frisbee discus and an obstacle course.

‘‘The inquiry has meant research with reading, writing, geography and artistic creativity and sportsmanship, of course, to lead up to a fun day for the whole school and visiting families,’’ senior class teacher Amanda Hyslop said.

The nations were chosen at random, possibly to avoid lengthy debate over who got to be New Zealand.   Events wound up with a mini marathon, followed by a medal ceremony.
