Kangaroo bashing not isolated incident: RSPCA

A video posted on the internet showing a man punching and kicking a kangaroo is not an isolated incident, the RSPCA in Western Australia says.

Authorities are hunting for the man who was involved in the attack and a mate who can be heard egging him on as the kangaroo appears to be beaten unconscious.

The man in the video is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his late teens or early 20s, with fair hair and fair skin.

The attack first came to light in WA, but RSPCA spokesman Richard Barry said he was not sure whether it had happened in that state.

He said, in a response to the RSPCA's calls for information about the attack, the animal protection body had received a number of calls about different incidents of attacks on kangaroos.

"Over east, a similar incident to this occurred very recently," Mr Barry said.

"We're also getting a number of calls, even from a member of the media, who saw an incident happening at Dianella (in Perth) earlier this week where a group of youths were beating a pack of kangaroos with a plank of wood.

"Over east, over west, it seems like something that's happening quite regularly in Australia.

"It couldn't have all just happened in the last couple of weeks."
