Te Anau is set to host the 90th South Island National Daffodil Show in conjunction with the 43rd Te Anau Spring Flower Show.

This is the third time the Te Anau Flower Show Committee has hosted the show, with the last one being held in 2010.

Exhibitors from all over New Zealand will be showcasing their daffodils blooms in the Fiordland Community Events Centre.

Te Anau National Show Convener Laura Shefford said “they were really looking forward to hosting the third show”.

“Exhibitors are a great group of people and enjoy their time in Te Anau”.

“Interest from as far afield as United States, with a couple traveling New Zealand and organizing their itinerary to fit in with the show dates”.

There is also a van load from Palmerston North and a couple from Scotland who have attended the show in previous years.

Te Anau last year hit the records again, becoming one of the largest shows nationally, with 2400 blooms being exhibited last year.

Interest has increased in exhibiting in the Te Anau shows with an increase in varieties now available.

The Flower Show Committee has been ably assisted over the years by a dedicated band of helpers. There are some very proud locals and organisers to have reached this achievement.

Many exhibitors come from as far away as Southbridge, Waihola, Mossburn, Winton, Balclutha and Dunedin.

Many community groups have also assisted over the years with Te Anau Lions Club who have set and dismantling of the shows’ display stands, along with Presbyterian Women who make the morning and afternoon teas.

This year the Young Farmers Club, Fiordland Rotary Club and Te Anau Kepler Lions Club have all come on board to assist with the extra workload involved in hosting the National Show.

Te Anau Flower Show Committee Convener Judy Matthews instigated a daffodil growing scheme to encourage more people to grow the flowers.

Pleasant Valley Daffodils have been supplying over 250 bulbs for the past seven years. Members of the community varying in ages were given a pot and 3 bulbs, with instructions and are urged to enter their pot in a special class at the show.

There are classes for Daffodils, Cut Flowers, Floral Art and a Children’s Section.
