Worker in wetsuits are trying to restore Waihola's water supply after the reservoir emptied when a pipe burst yesterday, the Clutha Disrict Council says.
Contracting staff are working to urgently fix the pipe but it is difficult to access as it is under flood waters, the council says.
Customers on the northern part of the North Bruce Rural Water Scheme will also be running out of water, because they are served by the same burst pipe.

People on the Glenkenich Rural Water Scheme are also asked to conserve water as, due to poor river conditions, the treatment plant is struggling to meet demand.
Elliotvale Rd remains closed from Toko Mouth Rd to Blackbridge Rd, and Toko Mouth Rd is closed from Tokoiti because of water across the road.
These roads will be reassessed in the next few hours, the council says.
