Video: CCTV footage of violent armed robbery released

Dunedin police have recovered a stolen car which they believe was used in a violent robbery yesterday morning.

Two armed, masked men burst into the Regent Night 'n Day dairy, at the bottom of Regent Rd in North Dunedin, early yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Mel Aitken of Dunedin police said the pair - one carrying a gun and the other a knife demanded cash and cigarettes from the sole attendant who was kicked and punched.

As they left they attacked a bystander was attacked and left unconscious on the pavement.

Police today recovered a stolen silver Subaru GT station wagon which they believed was used in the robbery and were appealing for any sightings of the car or the offenders.

Police also released CCTV footage of the two offenders, believed to be Maori or Polynesian, assaulting a member of the public who was standing outside the dairy, then attacking the store manager.

They also wanted to hear from a possible witness, described as a Caucasian man in his 20s wearing glasses, who entered the dairy shortly after the robbery.
