Fire crews responded to a rubbish fire in Waikiwi, Invercargill yesterday afternoon.
A Fire and Emergency (Fenz) spokesman said one appliance was sent to Switzer St about 3.30pm.
However, when they were on route, the level of smoke indicated more assistance was needed and another appliance was requested, he said.
‘‘When they arrived they found a large vegetation fire. Initially they were working with one high pressure hose reel, then they found it was a 20m by 10m rubbish fire and they requested a tanker to assist.’’
The fire was extinguished about an hour after it was reported.
No structures were involved in the blaze and it was not being treated as suspicious.
