A horse-trekking company has been running small treks which did not require a resource consent, but was unaware it needed a "Licence to Occupy", which it has now applied for.
NZ Horse Treks stopped running treks while it applied to the Queenstown Lakes District Council for the licence to allow it to undertake two treks per day within the Coronet Peak Forest.
Yesterday, the council granted the licence but recommended the company remove manure left by its horses.
In the report prepared by Dan Egerton, of APL Property Ltd, it said the company was "unaware that they required a licence believing that as they were only guiding a small number of patrons, they were under the threshold for a resource consent".
