Bulls share top priceof $22,000

A top price of $22,000 was shared by two Hereford bulls at the Beef Expo in Feilding last week.

Orari Gorge Station, in South Canterbury, sold Orari Gorge Lawless 110049 to Glenbrae Farm in Hawkes Bay, while Kevin and Jane McDonald from Reperoa sold Kairuru Iconic 110023 to Otapawa Station.

Mark and Sherrie Stokman, from Rotorua, achieved the top price in the Queen of Hearts heifer sale, selling an Angus heifer for $7000, followed by North Otago Angus breeders Neil and Rose Sanderson, who sold Fossil Creek Joanne 10-12 to Turiroa Farm Ltd for $6500.

Northland couple Chris and Karren Biddles have again been named grand champions in the Steak of Origin competition.

After winning in 2007 and taking the Producer of the Decade title in 2012, the Te Kopuru couple won this year's event with their Angus/Jersey beef sirloin entry.

The 20 finalists' offerings were tasted by a panel of judges comprising chefs Graham Hawkes and Scott Kennedy, food writer and columnist Lauraine Jacobs and farming commentator Steve Wyn-Harris.

Greg and Karen Metherell, from Kenmore Station, at Otekaieke, in North Otago, were fourth in the best of breed with a Limousin/Angus entry.

Anzco-Riverlands won supreme brand champion and the winning processor was Auckland Meat Processors/Wilson Hellaby.
