British economist E.F. Schumacher was not referring to harness racing when he coined the phrase ''small is beautiful''.
But it is not a bad description for the team lining up at Addington tonight for the Westwood Beach training team of Jonny Cox and Amber Hoffman.
Both New Years Jay (race 6) and Free Dreams (race 7) are strong hopes in their respective assignments.
''Apart from [Jaccka] Justy, they're probably the next best two horses so, hopefully, we can get a dollar or two,'' Cox said.
Free Dreams takes his place in the $23,5000 trotting edition of the super series finals and should enjoy the chance to start off 20m against c1 trotters, although he has some handy types such as Idle Bones, Jayceekay and Spell beside him.
Cox only became aware of the series, open to trotters who were c2-graded or lower in early May, when Free Dreams joined the stable in late May.
''As soon as I heard about it, it was going to be our plan. He had to have two starts between May and the end of July [at Addington], so it worked out quite nicely.
''Those four backmarkers should really fight out the finish. It just depends who gets the better run and gets the job done on the night.''
Tonight's final should be just the start of Free Dreams making trips to and from the upper South Island as new owner Gary Fyfe is quite keen to give the 5yr-old his chance in the top grades.
''He's done a bit of racing in the short time we've had him. He'll have a two or three-week break [after tonight],'' Cox said.
''He'll probably be a travelling mate for [Jaccka] Justy. Gary wants to have a crack at Kaikoura then on to Cup Week.
''He's probably still a year away from racing the big boys but if we can have a bit of fun along the way, we'll be happy.''
New Years Jay will notice the class rise from the 10-length thumping she handed out at Forbury Park last month, but Cox feels she is more than capable of measuring up in the Young At Heart series heat.
She paced a 2.00.1 mile rate over 1700m at Forbury Park with plenty to spare, and Cox expects her to tighten up even further.
''Those three or four heats they had last month, they went about a 1.58 mile rate every time, so I'd expect them to do the same,'' he said.
''Her work's been good. She's not a flash track worker, but her work has been near enough down the beach for her.
''Hopefully, we can either trail or be handy on the speed and she's got a bit of dash which she showed that night at Forbury.''
