Dunstan recorded a chunky win against Cromwell in the third round of the Southern Schools Rugby Championship qualifiers on Saturday.

They ran in nine tries during their comfortable 57-10 win in Cromwell.

The backline got good front-foot ball and used it well, coach Dennis Mullally said.

"To be fair to Cromwell, they played well in patches," he said.

"But we just maintained position, and they didn’t have a lot of ball to play with."

Lock Ryan Crossan produced a dominant performance.

He made some sharp offloads and got through a heavy workload.

Hooker Wade McAtamney threw the ball into the lineout well and his defence was flawless.

Jake Mullally had a tidy game at first five, and midfielder Hayvin O’Neill’s distribution was first-class.

Fullback Reuben Mills bagged two tries and was dangerous when he got into space.

And Dennis Mullally singled out referee Jayden McLew for some praise as well. He let the game flow nicely.

In the other games, Waitaki Boys’ were too good for Taieri in Mosgiel. They posted a 43-19 win.

Rival Oamaru school St Kevin’s also had a healthy win. They routed Mt Aspiring 60-10 in Wanaka.

South Otago beat Central Southland 29-15 in Winton, and Wakatipu secured a 34-19 win against Hokonui Colleges on the road.

In the South Island Boys’ Rugby Championship, the two Dunedin schools continue to find it tough.

Otago Boys’ were well-beaten 42-21 by Christchurch Boys’ in Christchurch, and King’s lost 50-24 in St Thomas in Dunedin.

Southland Boys’, however, moved into second place with a 38-27 win against Shirley Boys’.
