A Government grant of $17,500 will enable a Central Otago teen anti-cyberbullying group to develop a digital app-based game raising awareness of bullying.
The grant for the Sticks'n'Stones initiative was announced yesterday by Youth Minister Nikki Kaye. It was one of seven innovative schemes by young people funded by the Government, with a total of $121,000 given out.
"The intention is the game will be developed in association with the kids and it'll be interactive and fun to play,'' project facilitator Karla Sanders, of Alexandra, said.
It would be free to download, she said.
The Sticks'n'Stones group was set up in 2013 by 25 high school pupils through the Central Otago Rural Education Activities Programme.
The group aimed to take positive online action to reduce cyberbullying.
It now has about 90 members, aged from 11-19.
Several members who had left high school and were now in tertiary education were still involved as mentors, Mrs Sanders said.
