A fire within a Department of Conservation reserve at Alexandra on Friday night is still being investigated.
About 20 Alexandra firefighters were called to a blaze in pine trees behind Molyneux Estate at 9.30pm.
Alexandra Volunteer Fire Brigade Chief Fire Officer Russell Anderson said there were three separate fires burning within about 100m of one another.
Overall, about 100sq m of vegetation was destroyed, he said.
"There was no wind at the time, which was lucky, but the risk is still huge," Mr Anderson said.
Firefighters were at the scene of the fire for one and a-half hours.
Doc would continue investigating the cause of the fire.
