Four representatives from the Central Otago district will attend the Local Government New Zealand conference in Christchurch, from July 15-17.

At the council meeting last month, Mayor Tim Cadogan said he would attend as the presiding delegate for the district.

Deputy mayor Neil Gillespie of the Cromwell ward and councillor Stuart Duncan of the Maniototo ward were chosen to attend as alternate delegates. Chief executive officer Sanchia Jacobs would also attend.

Mr Cadogan attended the conference for the first time last year and said there were many benefits to going.

"You don't want to do this job in isolation ... we've got challenges and it's an opportunity to get together and meet others."

About 600 delegates from around New Zealand will attend the conference, which will also include awards for local projects or initiatives by local authorities.
