Cromwell’s abuzz with $1 million win

There is a "buzz'' among staff at the Cromwell New World after discovering its lucky Lotto shop sold a $1 million prize-winning ticket.

A Lotto spokeswoman yesterday evening said the first division winner was yet to claim their prize, which was not unusual as they might not have checked their ticket.

Cromwell New World owner-operator Phil Ryan said there was a "buzz'' among staff and lots of people were talking about the win.

"Everyone wants to know who it is and, of course, we don't know who it is.

"It's a good thing to happen, especially in a wee town.''

If it was a local, and not just someone passing through, news of who won the ticket would probably get out eventually.

"Hopefully, it goes to a worthy person.''

The supermarket was lucky when it came to Lotto, having previously sold a $1 million prize-winning ticket.

The Lotto spokeswoman said anyone who bought a ticket from Cromwell New World should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it immediately at any Lotto outlet, online at mylotto.co.nz or through the Lotto NZ ticket-checker app.
