Downturn leads to restaurant closure

The economic downturn has led to the closure of an Alexandra restaurant for the winter.

The Cellar Door restaurant closed yesterday because of reduced demand and its closure would be reviewed after winter, The Cellar Door Ltd director Russell Ibbotson said.

"Its closure probably reflects the difficult economic situation at present and the uncertainty going into winter."

The retail sector as well as the hospitality industry was affected by the downturn, he said.

However, The Cellar Door function and conference centre was still taking bookings for functions, conferences or meetings throughout winter.
