A draft significance and engagement policy for Central Otago will open for public submissions this month.
The draft Central Otago District Council policy was adopted during a meeting yesterday.
Corporate services manager Susan Finlay said the purpose of the policy was to make sure the council engaged with the community rather than ''just consulting''.
The policy says it aims to give the Central Otago people an understanding of how and when they would be involved in decisions about the council's plans.
Mayor Tony Lepper said the council was ''trying its hardest'' to get feedback.
The policy was required after an amendment to the Local Government Act 2002 earlier this year.
Final policy adoption is planned for late November.
Feedback closes on October 31.
