The Maniototo Community Board met for the final time before the election in Ranfurly last week.

The main item on the agenda was the first round of community, promotions and events grants for the 2025-26 financial year.

Central Otago District Council media and marketing manager Alison Mason said in her report presented to the board, two organisations were looking for promotions and events grant funding, there were no applications for community grants.

The board had $5000 to distribute in the events and promotion grants scheme.

Tiaki Maniototo, who asked the board for $1219 for portaloos at the Taiari Wai River Festival 2026.

Naseby Vision Incorporated, asked for $6000 from the board to put towards a planetarium, venue hire, promotion and entertainment costs for their Dark Sky celebration event.

Board chairman Robert Hazlett said the board could approve only $5000 in grants. They would have to ask the council to make up the difference.

The board voted to give $5000 to Naseby Vision and $1219 to Tiaki Maniototo, subject to approval of additional funding by council for their festival in January next year.
