Festival report still some weeks away

The Alexandra Blossom Festival committee is taking longer than expected to collate post-event information about this year's festival, which finished early last month.

Committee chairman Steve Battrick said the initial month-long debrief would more likely be finished in a few weeks.

"Debriefing sessions associated with the five main events are almost complete. These will be summarised by Projectexcel for analysis at the next committee meeting on Monday, November 24," he said.

The committee was waiting to get complete results of a post-festival public survey, as well as a survey which was carried out by the Central Otago District Council during the festival, he said.

"Results of those surveys will be considered at the same meeting, when all comments and recommendations will be taken into consideration for future programming.

"The committee is anxious to ensure that in addition to its own ideas, every opportunity is taken for the community to express a view as to the festival format and how they wish the event to progress in the future," he said.

Public survey respondents were asked to rank events they attended at this year's festival, and indicate how certain events could be improved.

Questions also included whether bad weather, ticket prices, or poor entertainment choices hindered ticket sales to the Contact Alex Live concert, which made an estimated budget loss of $30,000.

Mr Battrick said the committee was also short-listing applicants for the festival's management position, which it was required by contract to advertise each year.

He said the committee was delighted with the number of applicants, and the diverse range of skills and experience each of the 15 people had.

"A successful applicant will be announced in early December," he said.
