Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) crews were notified at about 4pm of the blaze in McArthur Rd.
Fire appliances from Alexandra and Clyde attended alongside a rural tanker from Dunstan.
Smoke could be seen from the road in Waikerikeri.
A Fenz spokesman said the fire had been extinguished and the area was being dampened down by 4.45pm.
The crews' job was made easier by the lack of wind and some high pressure hose reels, he said.
There is a total fire ban in several spots throughout the region including Alexandra and Clyde.
