Great year for museum

Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery staff reflected on a positive year of growth at the museum's annual general meeting in Alexandra on Thursday night.

Director Brian Patrick said the museum had gone from strength to strength in the past 12 months and staff were looking forward to a bright future.

"The big thing for us this year was the huge number of people we had through the door. That's the really gratifying thing, people keep coming back and enjoying what we've got to offer," Mr Patrick said.

He said visitors to the complex were representative of all age groups and demogra-phics, and had travelled to Alexandra from throughout Central Otago as well as Wanaka, Queenstown, Lawrence, and Dunedin.

Mr Patrick said funding applications had been received well over the past year, and continuous development in funding and support from organisations throughout Central Otago was predicted.

"We've had a great year financially as well as with all our programmes, exhibitions, and events. There's no reason why people and organisations which have supported us previously won't continue to do so," he said.

About 20 people attended the AGM, at which Mr Patrick spoke of future initiatives and programmes planned for the coming year.

He said a climate science exhibition would be built and staff would try to ensure movie screenings were popular.

Programmes and events which had proved to be staple favourites would also continue, including the winter lecture series, photographic competitions, displays, and musical event, he said.

Mr Patrick said no change was made to the museum committee's structure or operation.
