Hairdressing salon damaged by fire

An electrical engineer will check some equipment from an Alexandra hairdressing salon which was damaged by fire early yesterday.

Fire investigator Barry Gibson said he was not treating the fire as suspicious.

Damage to the Envy salon could have been much more serious had the building not been fitted with a good smoke alarm system and fire-resistant materials, he said.

Alexandra and Clyde volunteer fire brigades attended the fire, which started in the roof of the two-storey building.

Envy owner Rae-Ellen Harvey said she was unsure how long her business would be closed but she was insured.
