Traffic on Central Otago roads is heavy today, but drivers are behaving courteously, police say.
Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk said police had "very few'' reports of issues on roads in the region, particularly around Roxburgh and Alexandra.
He was aware there were issues on other roads near Cromwell, Wanaka, the Lindis Pass, and Queenstown.
"Everyone has been well behaved and courteous, which is what we have been asking for.''
Police had "plenty'' of staff in the region and were maintaining a high profile, which would continue for the "next few days'', he said.
Earlier in the week, he said police would be targeting driving and alcohol related behaviour over the holiday period.
While he did not have numbers, he believed the population in the region had close to doubled.
He had also said people were well behaved over Christmas and Boxing Day as well.
