Love it or loathe it - the jury is still out on the new Alexandra logo, it seems.

Promote Alexandra unveiled its new logo this week and has combined several ideas to come up with a design comprising a heart and the letters LX. The incorrect logo was published with yesterday's Otago Daily Times story on the change.

Promotions group chairman Shayne Hitchcock said yesterday there had been a "wee bit of response to it [the new logo] but most was noncommittal".

"The initial reaction has been fairly low-key but it takes a wee while before you get some feedback."

Alexandra Retailers Group spokesman Brent Ross said he did not want to comment because the group had not yet discussed the new logo.

Mr Hitchcock said Rex Eade and Tia Marshall were responsible for developing the "simple but effective" logo.

"It was a combination of several different ideas and instead of coming up with one slogan, there's three - 'Take your Time', 'Heart of Central' or 'Explore, Discover, Enjoy'. "

The design included Alexandra's giant clock on the hill and the promotions group was impressed with the input from the town's residents after it sought feedback on an earlier range of slogans, he said.
