Lengthy delays after crash in Cromwell Gorge

A 4WD vehicle rolled in the Cromwell Gorge last night, causing lengthy delays for motorists.

Police said one person was believed to have sustained moderate injuries in the crash, on State Highway 8 near Champagne Gully about 7pm.

A person at the scene who contacted the Otago Daily Times said there were "severe tyre marks" leading up to where the southbound vehicle had hit a safety fence. 

He said emergency service vehicles eventually rolled it back on to its wheels, and a person was taken from the scene by ambulance..

Traffic was delayed for at least 90 minutes, with huge queues on each side.
