Mayors often like exposure, but not usually of the fleshly kind.

Perhaps that is why, in reprising his  role in the Alexandra Musical Society’s 2011 production of The Full Monty in the society’s 60th jubilee show, Central Otago’s singing Mayor Tim Cadogan  chose to perform his cameo number with costume on.

Mr Cadogan appeared in the first two performances of the jubilee show, called Showtime, which ended on Tuesday night.

He performed the number Big-ass Rock with former Full Monty cast-mates Mark Templeton and Kieron Ingram.Mr Cadogan said the society had been kind enough to allow him to  "pop in and out" as he had been unable to appear in the final two performances because of mayoral duties. He was thankful he did not have to perform the musical’s signature stripping number for the jubilee show.

"When we did the show originally, we did finish with a great amount of trust being placed in the lighting director to get the lighting right when we removed our hats."

Mr Cadogan has performed in many of the society’s productions, including its yearly Stars in Their Eyes show, in which he once imitated Susan Boyle.

Showtime director Matt van den Yssel said Mr Cadogan had great confidence on stage.

"He auditioned for Grease this year and we tried to get him in for a cameo, but it just didn’t work out.

"I’ve been impressed with his performances since I was a youngster."
