More than $7000 was raised for Dunstan Hospital at the annual Alexandra District Club (ADC) Bowls charity tournament earlier this month.

An ADC Bowls spokesperson said each year the club and Alexandra Family Medical Centre sponsored the event, with the club choosing the charity.

This year Dunstan Hospital was chosen and once again the community and businesses came together in an incredible show of generosity, with private donations being made by individuals and 22 teams which participated in a fantastic day of bowls, the spokesperson said.

After the event, they calculated the amount raised for Dunstan Hospital was more than $7000. This was through entry fees, raffle sales, auctions, donations and sponsorships.

Dunstan Hospital chief executive Haley Anderson said the unexpected contribution would provide much needed funds for important initiatives at the hospital.

Last year’s tournament funds were raised for Isabel Gillaly, who was just 2-years-old and battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

With five months of treatment remaining Isabel and her family are looking forward to a well-deserved holiday and a trip to the zoo.

It was an incredible milestone for a brave little girl.

"We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from our community and look forward to continuing this tradition of giving back," the spokesperson said.
