Two Alexandra photographers are convinced their new book is one of a kind.

Alexandra: a Photographic Journey, has been six months in the making for Sue Noble-Adams and Olwynne Oliver, of Alexandra, who have literally trekked the hillsides with their cameras to convey images of the four seasons.

Mrs Noble-Adams said there was no recent photographic representation of the Alexandra region.
‘‘There's been a hole in the market for a long time for that,'' Mrs Noble-Adams said.

‘‘It's of Alexandra, but it's representative of the whole of Central Otago.''

The book appealed immediately to the public, with 100 copies being ordered during lunchtime on the first day it went on sale last week.

The two have gone to no end of trouble to take photos, often returning to places for the best light conditions and stretching their own physical limitations to get to a better viewpoint.

One evening, camera in hand, Mrs Oliver lost her way at Lake Onslow. ‘‘The sun went down so quick, I had no idea which way to turn,'' Ms Oliver said.

Sometimes, the two explore the same subject using different compositions. ‘‘A lot of times, we do phone each other and we're off."

‘‘We see things in different ways and take things on different cameras, basically,'' Mrs Noble-Adams said.

She uses an Olympus singlereflex lens camera and Ms Oliver a Sony Cybershot point-and-shoot. None of the photos have been digitally enhanced.

‘‘What you see is what you get.''

‘‘That's our motto,'' Ms Oliver said.

‘‘With us, as well,'' Mrs Noble-Adams added.

Alexandra: a Photographic Journey is available at the Alexandra Information Centre and Alexandra bookshops or can be purchased for $20 from Sue on 448-6218 or Olwynne on 448-7822. Information is available on www.oliverphotoart.co.nz
