Plan agreed to plant orchard in Vallance Cottage Reserve

Vallance Cottage will be surrounded by a community orchard on a newly named reserve as part of a plan to raise its profile and find a future use for the cottage.

The Vincent Community Board yesterday voted to name the recreation reserve on which the circa 1896 cottage sits the Vallance Cottage Reserve, and to plant a community orchard around the cottage, in Samson St, on part of the Alexandra Town Belt.

It was hoped the move would attract further interest in the cottage, the aim being to find a use for the cottage to help provide a sustainable future for it, a report by Central Otago District Council staff member Christina Martin said.
