Burnt orange police highway patrol car chases a bright orange Lamborghini Huracan around a motorsport racetrack while film crews and photographers catch the action.

It might sound like a high-paced sequence from a Hollywood thriller movie, but it was Senior Constable Graeme Buttar being filmed for an episode of Highway Patrol.

Snr Const Buttar was at the Highlands Motorsport Park recently to work on a road safety partnership, and get to know the track before police driver training to be held soon at the park.

''It was good fun at the end of the day [and] nicer than driving out there than on roads that were chocker.''

Highlands manager Mike Sentch said Snr Const Buttar was ''doing pretty well'' on a track he was not used to, given park owner Tony Quinn, driving the Lamborghini, was thoroughly familiar with the circuit's layout.

The highway patrol car performed well, but could not keep up with the Lamborghini.

Mr Sentch pointed out that driving on a race track was ''very'' different from driving on an open road.

He was not sure when the footage would be released on the television show.

Although the highway patrol car was on the race track, no official lap time was recorded.
