Police look for truck after woman struck by cap

Police investigating a freak accident that left a woman with serious facial injuries are looking for the driver of a black truck seen on the Luggate-Cromwell Road.

The woman, in her 60s, was struck in the face by an old brass fuel cap about 3.30pm on Friday while driving near Luggate.

She was transported to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter.

Police have thanked the public for their help in the investigation so far, which has helped uncover new leads.

They would now like to speak to the driver of a black flat-deck truck which was seen travelling north towards Luggate at the time of the incident.

The truck was described as having an empty deck with a hiab crane at the back.

Police also want to hear from anyone who may have seen the truck or who has dashcam footage that might be able to help with their investigation.
