Officer in charge Doug McLellan said tourists driving down a gravel road ran into a ditch, and the van burst into flames.
Part of a fence was damaged but no-one was injured. Firefighters were called to the scene at 3.27pm, along Crawford Hills Rd at Galloway, about 10km east of Alexandra.
One fire engine from Alexandra and a rural tanker from Clyde attended. The fire was contained within 45 minutes.
