Charges are likely for a banned driver who was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Oamaru this afternoon.

Constable Neil Rushton, of Oamaru, said the crash happened shortly after 4pm when a male motorist who was forbidden from driving hit the accelerator in his car instead of the brake while approaching Weston Rd with the intention of turning right into Saleyards Rd.

His vehicle then collided with another car carrying two occupants that was heading towards Oamaru on Weston Rd.

No injuries were reported.

Const Rushton said it was likely the forbidden driver would face charges as a result of the crash.

One lane of Weston Rd was closed for about 40 minutes while the vehicles were moved from the road and debris was cleared. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.
