Skateboard jumps cluttering the recently refurbished Palmerston railway station platform are upsetting the operator of the Seasider trains between Dunedin and Palmerston.
After some of the more than 350 passengers on a crowded Seasider train had to clamber around the skateboarding equipment recently, Seasider train manager Allan Boyer said that he had "had enough" and a complaint would be laid with the police.
Mr Boyer said that he would have no problems with the skateboarders using the station platform on days when the Seasider train did not run, but they should remove their equipment before the Seasider train arrived.
He also had concerns about skateboarding jumps being pushed on to the railway track in the Palmerston railway yards as goods trains often travelled through at 70kmh.
Palmerston skateboarder Josh Sprague (16) admitted to owning some of the skateboarding equipment on the railway station platform.
If he knew when trains were arriving in Palmerston, he would remove the jumps, he said.
