More stalls and more visitors is the message from organisers of a monthly market at the Oamaru Garrison Band hall.

The market was originally started in 2002 as a fundraiser for the band.

It was taken over some years ago by stallholders and is held on the second Saturday of the month, between 9am and midday.

One of the organisers, Stuart Renalson, wanted to see the market grow and for the public to visit it.

He said there had been "average" support.

The market averaged about 15 stalls, which included craft, wooden toys, jam, jewellery, knitwear, plants, recycled tools and furniture.

The highest number of stalls had been 22.
