Out of control burn-off in North Otago contained

An out of control burn-off at a North Otago property has been contained.

Fire crews from Kurow, Weston and the Waitaki Voluntary Rural Fire Force were sent to a property in Danseys Pass Rd near Livingstone, 35km north-west of Oamaru, about 3.35pm after a report the fire had spread.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Andrew Norris said the land owner helped fire crews contain the 20m by 30m blaze by about 4.30pm, before a tanker from Kurow and rural pump from Oamaru worked to extinguish the fire.

Crews are still at the scene dampening down the area and were expected to be at the property until early this evening.

No property or other infrastructure was threatened.
