Next month the 25-year-old Oamaru hairdresser flies to the Philippines to teach a group of underprivileged people how to cut hair as part of Schwarzkopf Professional's Shaping Futures international social initiative programme.
Ms Jordan, who works at Fusion Hair in Thames St, is the only New Zealander selected for a team of four from Australia and New Zealand, which will head out on May 8 and return on May 22.
She will be based in the city of Lipa, in the province of Batangas.
She said the chance to help other people learn a trade they could take anywhere in the world was one she did not want to pass up.
"It would be good to make a difference in someone else's life.
"I wouldn't be where I am today if people didn't support me through my career,'' she said.
She would be training people aged between 16 and 43.
"I feel like I'm lucky to be able to help them.''
Preparation work so far had included reading up on training modules, Ms Jordan said.
She expected the experience to be life-changing and looked forward to being exposed to another culture.
"I feel like I'll come back and cherish what we've got here.
"It will be good for training in the salon [and] improve my skills in training apprentices here.''
