Concept plans are being prepared to transform the Omarama Memorial Hall into a multipurpose community centre.
The Omarama Residents' Association was set up in August to investigate redeveloping the hall.
It held a public meeting on August 29 at which about 50 people put forward ideas.
Association chairman Bill Gordon said the association had since prioritised the ideas.
An architect had been asked to prepare a concept plan which would then enable a preliminary cost estimate to be made.
The concept plan and preliminary cost is expected to go back to the committee in February.
It would then prepare a final concept plan which would be presented to another public meeting.
Some of the ideas included making provision for medical facilities, adding an outside hard surface area for tennis and netball to take pressure off the courts at Omarama School, providing for centralised co-ordination during civil defence emergencies and possibly a minor increase in the size of the building.
An improved multipurpose public area with a stage inside the hall was also proposed.
Whatever was done, upgrading electricity and plumbing would be required and the use of the building by the play group-kindergarten would be protected.
