Pupils to be questioned

Six Oamaru schoolgirls will be interviewed by police after bragging at school about stealing clothing and footwear from an Oamaru business.

Constable Peter Scott said the girls planned to shoplift clothes from Soul, Surf and Skate after school on September 15.

Clothes and sandals valued at about $1600 were taken.

After girls "bragged" about the thefts at school, police and Soul, Surf and Skate owners Jeremy and Cristy Holding were "inundated" with calls from other pupils annoyed such a popular shop was targeted.

It was widely recognised as being supportive to local youth, Const Scott said.

The girls and their parents would be interviewed soon.

Anyone with information about outstanding clothing should contact Const Scott at the Oamaru police station.
