It was a cold and windy day with a little bit of rain sprinkled in for good measure.
However, that did not deter a good crowd from showing up.
"They’re good camping people and they don’t mind a bit of rain," Kurow Jockey Club president Simon Williamson said.
"The racing is good, the trainers have all turned up, so it’s all good.
"It’s a good day out.
"It’s normally the biggest event in the Waitaki Valley.
"We could get four or five thousand people here if the weather is all right ... I don’t know whether we’ll quite get to that."
The club also presented life memberships to Jane Neave, Hugh Cameron and Fred Graham.
"These people have been part of the club for a long, long time," Mr Williamson said.
All were volunteers, so it was nice for them to get the recognition, he said.
