Skateboard park closer

A new skateboard park for Palmerston came a step closer this week when 53 skateboard enthusiasts attending a meeting called by the Waihemo Community Board.

Funding had been made available by the Waitaki District Council for a skateboard park in Palmerston, providing local people raised some of the costs, Waihemo Community Board chairman Rod Philip said.

Also, the East Otago Lions club has offered to help skateboarders and their parents or guardians raise funds for a skateboard park in the town.

The next meeting of the skateboard park committee will be held at the Waihemo Centre on Tuesday, June 2.

The previous skateboard ramp in the Runbrake St park in Palmerston was considered unsafe and was recently demolished.
