While the new Network Waitaki Event Centre is a hit among its users, the trust behind the project still has work to do.
Waitaki Event Centre Trust chairman Kevin Malcolm said 6500 people had used the event centre for sport since it opened last month.
"The reaction from the users, from the sports players, has just been absolutely superb."
It had not just been athletes making use of the facility either.
"There’s also people using the meeting areas, the Lower Waitaki Garden Club just had their AGM there, Federated Farmers just had their AGM, corporates have been using it for training events.
"It’s starting to get into the system of people using it for a huge variety of uses."
The only issue it had encountered was a gap at the end of the railing on the viewing deck which had now been fixed.
Meanwhile, the trust was still hard at work raising funds to complete stage two of the project, which would be the grandstand for Whitestone Contracting Stadium.
"To keep warm in the winter, I’m running around collecting money," Mr Malcolm said.
"We are finalising contract documents for the build to make sure we’ve got everything ticked off and what will be delivered is exactly what we want. "
It would cost $6 million and the trust was "probably still looking for about $2.5m", Mr Malcolm said.
"We’re just continuing to work with our very good local people and we’ve got two or three major corporates that are looking to help us out.
"It’s actually quite exciting."
The goal was to have the grandstand built within the next 12 months, he said.
Being able to bring potential sponsors and donors through the facility had been a big help in fundraising.
"Up to now, it’s been very much a dream.
"Now we’re getting them through the facility, we’re really exciting them."
