A walkway connecting a walking track on Cape Wanbrow, Oamaru to yellow-eyed penguin habitat at Bushy Beach would cost $80,000, Waitaki District Council documents show.
The estimate for the walkway to the southern end of Cape Wanbrow, which was part of the council's proposed 2018-28 long-term plan, did not include land costs.
Last year, the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony began predator-trapping and advocating for the yellow-eyed penguins at the roughly 4ha Department of Conservation Bushy Beach Scenic Reserve.
