Ben Nettleton was appointed as a limited statutory manager at the school this week.
In a notice to parents and families yesterday, obtained by the Otago Daily Times, he said he wanted to share how impressed he was when he visited the school.
‘‘The commitment of the staff, the positive spirit of students, and the warmth of the school environment were very clear.
‘‘This is a wonderful place, with strong foundations.
‘‘Importantly, we are also seeing real progress in many areas. That is a credit to the efforts of staff, students, and families working together.’’
This was not about replacing the board, but about adding capacity so the school could thrive, he said.
‘‘With your support, we will continue building a safe, supportive, and successful environment for every learner.’’
He said the board had requested additional support from the Ministry of Education to strengthen systems and help staff focus on teaching and student wellbeing.
His appointment would have no impact on the children’s learning.
The purpose of the changes were to strengthen support for students, not disrupt their education.
Mr Nettleton, a Wellington-based solicitor, did not say how long the statutory management would last, only that it was temporary.
