Waitaki Boys' High School hostel director Dan Keno is leaving his role at the end of the school term.

Rector Darryl Paterson announced Mr Keno's departure in the school's latest newsletter.

"We wish to advise of a staffing change in the hostel for term four, with Mr Dan Keno leaving the school at the end of this term," Mr Paterson wrote.

"We acknowledge the significant contribution he has made to the hostel and the wonderful care he has shown our students over his time at the school."

Mr Paterson said it was not his place to comment on Mr Keno's departure, when approached by the Otago Daily Times yesterday, and referred media to board of trustees chairwoman Andrea Ludemann.

Ms Ludemann confirmed Mr Keno would be leaving his role at the end of the term, and thanked him for the "significant contribution that he's made to the hostel and the care that he's shown our boys".

She was unable to comment on the reason for Mr Keno's departure from the role he has held for close to three-and-a-half years.

"Employment matters are confidential," she said.

The board of trustees was "working hard" to ensure the staffing change did not affect the school's 40-odd boarding pupils.

Mr Keno did not return requests for comment.
