World title for Nzer

Former Waitaki Boys High School pupil Duncan Dixon has won the inaugural world under-21 golf croquet championship in Cairo.

Dixon (20), from Tauranga, started playing croquet in 2004 when boarders at the school were told to choose a sport to play.

Dixon was awarded a wild card entry to the 2008 golf croquet world championships in South Africa.

He was the best of the New Zealanders, making it to the top 16 in the knockout.

He represented New Zealand at this year's association croquet world championships in Florida, where he won the plate event.
