A section of Old Dunstan Road will be closed to through traffic from tonight.
The unmetalled road between Sutton Stream, 19km from SH87, and the junction with Patearoa-Paerau Road at the Styx is always closed over winter to reduce damage to the road in snow and icy conditions.
The road was to have been closed on Tuesday, but the closure had been brought forward due to safety concerns raised by police, a Dunedin City Council spokeswoman said.
The road will reopen on September 24.
