Air search fails to yield body

An aerial sweep of the Kawarau Gorge yesterday looking for the body of a Queenstown man missing since October 30 was unsuccessful.

A Heliworks helicopter swept the river yesterday afternoon, looking for the body of 59-year-old Matthew Hammill.

Mr Hammill was last seen at a Frankton Rd business at 11am on October 29.

His car, a silver Mitsubishi Diamante sedan, registration BTF577, was found parked at the Roaring Meg power station lookout at the Kawarau Gorge the next morning.

Jet-boats and aerial searches conducted since have failed to find any sign of Mr Hammill.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Queenstown police on 441-1600.
