A quiet night with no callouts was the best outcome on Saturday, while the Queenstown and Frankton Volunteer Fire Brigades had their annual service awards' dinner.
Before the firefighters and associated members were allowed dinner, they braved the cold and posed for photos for a book to commemorate the brigades' 150th anniversary next October.
Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden spoke at the dinner "on behalf of the community", thanking members for their work.
Twenty-two members were honoured with service awards and four others received special awards.
Medals are awarded first at five years then a silver bar is awarded for every second year thereafter until members reach 25 years when they receive a gold star, and a gold bar every second year.
