Charity runner Mal Law reached his $150,000 fundraising goal for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation yesterday during his 13-hour run around the taxing Rees-Dart circuit in the Mt Aspiring National Park but has not stopped running.
Law was shattered last night when he spoke to the Otago Daily Times, around 9pm, about an hour after finishing the 67km route.
He described the day as "brutal", with one highlight being finishing.
Another highlight was reaching the highest point in the alpine route, above the snowline, and having a snowball fight with his 12 supporting runners.
Law thought yesterday's run was to be 61km, but his companions' GPS devices all told the same story - for the second day in the row, he had underestimated his daily distance by several kilometres.
On Wednesday, his 38km "recovery run" at Lake Wakatipu ended up being a full marathon of 42.2km.
His planned run of 360km over seven days is likely to be at least 370km by the time he finishes the Kepler Challenge tomorrow.
"Can I stop running? No? Oh well, it was worth a try," Law said.
Last night, Law was tucking into a meal of freshly caught salmon and his wife Sally's special pasta dish.
Today, Law tackles the 52km Mavora-Greenstone Walkway and tomorrow the 60km Kepler Challenge at Te Anau.
