The fundraising event has been a feature for more than 20 years and this year money raised will go towards teaching and learning resources at the school, such as the school's kapa haka group.
Year 8 pupils were invited to set up stalls, which included pie-throwing and cupcake stalls and a sausage sizzle.
The books sold for between $1 and $5 and $26,000 had been raised at the day's end, although the final tally would not be confirmed until later today.
The fair started at 10am and Mrs Thompson said there had been "a constant stream" of visitors, locals and those from out of town, through the school's gates.
"There have been families, children, people from the older and younger generations.
"It's been a great cross-section here.
The books are the drawcard."
